Boris Johnson breaks protocol AGAIN sharing details of Queen meeting - Express

The Prime Minister filmed his journey to see the this morning, a meeting needed to dissolve Parliament and start the official electoral campaign. In it, Mr revealed for the second time in the few months he has been leading the Government details of his conversations with the monarch.

Filming a relaxed video from his phone while on the car taking him from Downing Street to Buckingham Palace, Mr Johnson claimed the Queen’s meetings always feel like a “tough interview”.

He said: “I’m just off to see Her Majesty the Queen, which is always a very tough interview because she always asks the best questions, and the question today is why are we having this election?

“There is only one reason - I am afraid that Parliament is paralysed.

“We have a fantastic Brexit deal, but they wouldn’t vote it through and what we’re saying to the country is: now is our chance to get a sensible majority Conservative Government.

“Day one, we’ll put that deal back to Parliament, get it through in a few weeks from December and come out in January.

“And what’s the alternative?

“Under , dither and delay and turn the whole of 2020, if not 2021 as well, into a nightmare of two referendums, one on the EU, one on Scotland.

“So, what I’m going to be urging the country really is to get Brexit done and allow us to take this incredible country forward.

“I think that’s what people want.”

The video was shared on the official Twitter account of the Prime Minister with the following caption: “We will have a General Election on December 12th. It’s now up to you, the great British public, to make your voice heard.

DON'T MISS

“Do you want to #GetBrexitDone or have two more referendums next year with Corbyn?”

This is not the first time Mr Johnson opens up on his meetings with the monarch.

On his day in office, just hours after being appointed Prime Minister by the Queen, Mr Johnson claimed the monarch said: “I don’t know why anyone would want the job”.

The decision to speak about the Queen’s meeting attracted onto Mr Johnson the criticism of some commentators.

Vincent McAviney, UK correspondent at Euronews, pointed out audiences with the Queen have normally been described with a very different terminology than the one used by Mr Johnson.

He said: “The PM again revealing details of meetings with HM the Queen, describes them as “tough interviews” - this is not how these audiences are normally described.”

Mr McAviney also mentioned Mr Johnson’s request to the Queen to prorogue Parliament this summer.

The suspension of the MPs’ work has been deemed unlawful by the High Court.

The commentator continued: “No doubt made all the more tougher by dragging her into the middle of Brexit by giving her misleading advice on prorogation.”

British voters will be called to the polling station on December 12.
