Apple CEO Tim Cook has made a $2 million donation to a mystery charity.
The donation of 6,880 shares was revealed in an SEC filing released on Thursday, putting the total value of the shares at just over $2 million. According to the filing Cook made the donation on December 27.
The recipient is not named in the filing, and 9to5Mac notes that for charitable donations corporate leaders like Cook are not obliged to specify the recipients of donations.
Cook has made similarly large donations in the past.
In August 2018 he donated almost $5 million to an unnamed charity. As CEO of Apple he has also announced more public-facing donations to causes including the Amazon rainforest fires and the California housing crisis – to which the company pledged $2.5 billion.
Following the donation Cook now owns 847,969 Apple shares worth $254.7 million at time of writing.
